Corcoran College of Art and Design
As for Fine Arts photography, students are benefited by a major museum as their Campus. It is internationally acclaimed for its groundbreaking exhibitions with massive collection of photography.
Students work with an experienced faculty, all of whom are deeply committed to the photographic medium as a powerful tool of individual expressions.
The central photography courses focus on fulfilling artistic potential and technical problem-solving skills. At the same time, they aim to equip students with all the tools they need to communicate their feelings and thoughts in a variety of ways. Main courses are co-taught, meaning that pupils get reports from two separate teachers every week. The three-year program consists of a sequence of core classes and mandatory courses in applied skills supplemented with electives.
Students continue to develop photography skills and a sense of individual direction during the second year of the program. Focused on risk-taking and analytical thinking, the junior-year curriculum is designed to encourage and accommodate students' increased participation in photography. Students are exposed to the history of photography, as well as recent critical and theoretical approaches to learn photography as an art form. The senior year will be devoted to both professional and personal development of the student to help the transition from student to a mature individual, who upon completion will be ready to begin his chosen career or to continue graduate classes.
A mandatory year-long internship exposes students to the realm of professional photography, and to a broad range of potential career paths. An exhibit of thesis work in the galleries of the internationally known Corcoran Museum of Art is the highlight of each senior's experience.
